We’re going hungry, Live below the line challenge!

Here we come

on a cold winter work day, the boys at Liminal Apparel, stumbled across the

Live Below The Line Challenge… and decided to give it a crack, so for a 5 days NEXT WEEK (22-27 AUG)  we’ll be living below the line to help raise money for our chosen organisation- OXFAM.

The week of Live Below the Line is a week like no other. For 5 days in August, thousands of people across New Zealand and Australia will spend just $2.25 each day on food, and use our daily experiences to bring extreme poverty to the centre of conversation in all we do. We’ll all be challenged; we’ll struggle without caffeine, and have a faint feeling of being not quite full for the whole week. We’ll pool money to make $2.25 stretch just a little further…

We’ll do all of this because whilst we choose to struggle to Live Below the Line for one week, there are 1.4 billion people who have no choice other than to do it every day.
While its only a small glimpse into the realities facing millions of people each day we really want to stretch ourselves and keep remembering the fact that extreme poverty still exists!,
SO please support us, money is an easy thing we can give in the west and it really does make a huge difference, for aid, development and building sustainability  so that people in a less fortunate situation to us get a fair crack at life too.

It’s been a  while since our last post, lots of exciting stuff in the works, so keep checking back to find out the latest.

We’ve just come back from 3 days in the south of the south island, Oamaru, Timaru and Dunedin, some really cool shops, with some passionate shop owners stocking our Freeset bags. If you are heading down south some time soon, these are the shops you should pop in to visit.

Timaru

  • Interlude – cute cottage gift store/cafe located close to the Hospital

Oamaru

  • Tangibles – A huge collection of gift ware to suit all tastes, with a corner dedicated to men located on the main road

Dunedin

  • Things design store – Very well laid out gift store with really cool gift ideas to suit everyone’s prices range located on George st
  • The Loft – A really cool gift ware/gallery store located opposite Things design store up stairs
  • Joseph Jones florist – Also located on George st, this florist has a bit of everything.

On the way home, we popped into Fleurs place in Moeraki for a shared platter and a Cracroft valley pinot gris… beautiful.

I think we deserve to do another EQ post/vent

So here goes…….

Just sat through yet another after shock, i’m guessing it was a 4.2 10km deep somewhere over near sumner.

It’s been a crazy old time for us at Liminal apparel, a little sleep deprived lately.

But in the scheme of things we are expanding and growing, taking on some really exiting customers and it looks like we are here to stay….. in Christchurch.

All n’ all we are hanging out for things to settle, so we can rebuild this damn city!

But until then….we will fill our time with lots of sales and fun…

….Speaking of fun, we are off to shoot some clays tomorrow, good way to let off steam :)

A nice reminder, why we do what we do

As you may well be aware, in garment manufacturing there is a lot of wastage; end of line colours, seconds, printing mistakes, discontinued styles…you name it. So where do these perfectly good garments go?

Here at Liminal Apparel we decided to help our manufacturers out by purchasing their some 2000+ “useless” t-shirts, and donating them to ’Missionaries of charity Kolkata’ to distribute to those in need on the streets of Kolkata.

We are so stoked to be able to play our part in this. However we know stories like this would not be possible without our amazing customers, you know who you are.

Ethical Investment- Radio New zealand

After a well deserved sleep in  i stumbled upon a great article on Ethical investment as i was drinking a coffee and reading the paper and listening to National Radio, Yes it was fair trade organic coffee!, the paper…i’m not so sure!

I began pondering and wondered if now more than ever this may be a decision which bears more and more weight when people consider where to invest and place finances, this timely interview with Chris Laidlaw as he is joined by Glen Saunders, Dr Robert Howell, and Rodger Spiller

follow this link to listen to the article:
